Pink Jeep or AZ Safari?

Six tours, two companies. They leave from different corners of uptown, run different rules at check-in and handle tips differently. Here is how they compare in practice.

The short answer

Choose the tour first and the operator second, because each company owns three very different rides. That said, the two do run things differently, and it is worth knowing which you have booked before you turn up at the wrong address.

Pink Jeep Tours

The company that put the pink jeep into Sedona's scenery, running from the town since 1960. Its full name is Pink Jeep Tours – Sedona & Grand Canyon, which matters for one reason: the Grand Canyon link is the most likely explanation for the $100 fee notice on one of its listings, explained in our fee guide. Its three tours here are Scenic Rim, the most-reviewed jeep tour in town at 4.8 from 308, Red Rock Range at 4.8 from 114 and Ancient Ruins at 4.7 from 43. Jeeps leave on the hour, and you write your preferred time into the "Notes for local tour operator" box at checkout. Food, drink and gratuities are not included.

AZ Safari Jeep Tours

The smaller operator, from a grey building with blue trim on the corner of Jordan Road and Apple Avenue. Its three tours are the most varied on the page: the vortex tour with no off-roading at all, Rim Run Supreme, the roughest and highest-rated ride here at 5.0 from 58, and Oak Creek Canyon, pavement only and the cheapest ticket. AZ Safari is more procedural. Check in thirty minutes before departure, sign the waivers in advance, and bring a full car seat for any child aged five or under. Bottled water is included. Parties of six or more pay an 18% gratuity upfront.

Where the difference actually shows

  1. The meeting point. Both are in uptown, a few minutes apart, and going to the wrong one is the easiest way to miss a jeep. Check your confirmation for the address.
  2. Group tipping. A family of six on an AZ Safari tour will see 18% added at the desk. On a Pink Jeep tour, the tip is up to you.
  3. The paperwork. AZ Safari wants waivers signed before you arrive and you there half an hour early. Pink Jeep asks for half an hour early on Ancient Ruins and a time in the checkout notes for the hourly departures.
  4. Water. Included on AZ Safari, not on Pink Jeep. Bring a bottle either way in summer.

Our pick from either company

Pink Jeep's Scenic Rim tour, ~$129 per person, with hotel pick-up and the climb onto the Mogollon Rim. Rated 4.8 out of 5 from 308 reviews.

In short

Pink Jeep runs the classic scenic tours from the plaza on State Route 89A, hourly, with water and tips left to you. AZ Safari runs the most varied three, from Jordan Road and Apple Avenue, with water included, waivers in advance and an automatic tip for bigger groups. Pick the ride you want, then note the address. All six are on the main page.
